DETAILS

When: Wednesday, September 3rd and Thursday, September 4th from 8:30 AM - 3 PM. Where: Gold Basin, southwest of Gunnison Parking: Volunteers will meet at Hartman Rocks Recreation Area base parking lot at 8:30 AM and carpool from there to the project site. What: Volunteers will be using Bill Zeedyk methods to position and stack rocks to act as grade-controlling structures. This minimizes erosion in the area and raises the water table to support plants and insects needed by wildlife. Each structure is strategically planned and placed to slow and spread the flow of water within the area. Why: Wet meadows scattered across the Gunnison Country are vital ecosystems that absorb water, foster abundant plant life, and provide essential drinking water and brooding habitat for our beloved wildlife. Through human use and prolonged droughts, these important ecosystems are disappearing. HCCA's Stewardship program strives to serve as support for our community partners that are committed to restoring these areas, while offering our community an opportunity to get involved, get their hands dirty, and give back to the public lands we all know and love. Here are a few things you should know: - Lunch will be provided on both work days - Bring a water bottle and or camelback, water will be provided for refills - Bring work gloves (we will have extras) - Bring weather appropriate clothing/gear (hat, sunscreen, bug spray, rain gear, etc.) - We recommend bringing a small pack to carry anything you may need (water, snacks, extra clothes) - Please note that there are no bathroom facilities on site Join us in giving back to our public lands through stewardship! We can't wait to see you in the field.
